Why do your auto insurance rates go up if you have a not-at-fault accident or comprehensive claim?
I gotz that wicked clown love asked:
I dont really understand…. If the accident was not your fault, or you have to file a comprehensive claim due to vehicle damage from an act of God, why are you then considered “higher risk” and have to pay more?

Because you didn’t manage to avoid the crazy person.
Also because these companies cherrypick the best drivers and ram of all the rest of the rates.
My insurance has been going up all my life and I’m 49. And my last ticket was over 12 years ago.
Your Insurance will not go up for a Comphrensive claim. Your rates will only go up for an “at fault” accident. You may not be qualified for certain discounts….but your rates should not go up for a no fault claim.
if you have a not-at-fault accident your rates won’t go up so long as your insurer isn’t paying out.
In any case where your insurer has to pay out you might get a premium increase.
Some of them might let you have the first one off but ask them first.
As to “why” they do it, well…. if you claim you claim, to them you are higher risk than someone who *never claimed*.
